'The Others - Torino, 2023'

Life, Still
with works by Alice Magne & Gamze Yalçin
For 'The Others', we are happy to unveil a selection of works made by two young promising artists, Alice Magne (Fr - 1998) & Gamze Yalçın (Tur - 1987).
In their own aesthetic way, they are giving a very contemporary approach to one of the most famous thematic in Art History: the floral still life paintings.
The vibrant figurative works of Gamze Yalçın are assimilating different concepts of the last century's art movements -being inspired mostly by the Fauvism-, confronting them with her intuitive way of painting, full of energy.
Alice Magne, instead, is taking the flowers out of the canvas: she's using them as a brush.
Creating her colors with plant pigments naturally extracted, Alice paints with her own ecological "bundle dyeing" technique, which consists of a repetition of a flower print pattern on an organically tinted canvas.
Conceived as a dialogue, the paintings of Gamze & Alice confront each other in their formal representation, but they come together to address contemporary issues: the renewal of genre painting and its way of representing it while including ecological constraints in its pictorial creation.
